Body-Mind Centering®

Body-Mind Centering® (hereinafter BMC®) is a somatic approach developed by therapist, teacher and dancer Bonnie Bainbridge-Cohen in the USA.

It is based on anatomical, physiological, psychophysical, embryological and developmental principles. It uses guided movement, conscious touch, movement patterns established in the first year of our life, which are the basis of our efficient and easy movement throughout life.

The BMC® approach helps restore movement processes more effectively - through embodiment, movement and subsequent awareness. The body learns to be more receptive in various relationships that are important during movement, it helps to reorganize difficulties (problems) in movement and perception both in healthy people of all ages and in the special needs of children and adults.

An important aspect in Body-Mind Centering® is to discover the relationship between a small activity inside the body and the subsequent visible movement of the body outside, in other words, it directs the internal cellular movement in the body with the external movement manifestation of movement in space. This involves finding, becoming aware of, integrating different tissues in the body, discovering the qualities that contribute to a given movement using different body systems.

The BMC® approach helps e.g. at:

spinal pain (e.g. lumbar and neck region), incorrect posture and incorrect movement habits, problems in knee mobility, Parkinson's syndrome and balance, weakening of the abdominal cavity and pelvic floor, diastasis, post-operative conditions and regaining mobility
